Please join the Passano Foundation for a member sponsored briefing on the Pride of Baltimore II. On February 27, 1977, the first Pride of Baltimore was launched. She was commissioned in the Inner Harbor by then-mayor William Donald Schaefer on May 1, 1977 in the name of the citizens of Baltimore and Maryland. The first Baltimore Clipper built in more than 150 years, she would capture the imagination of a city, a state, a nation, and, eventually, the world.During her nine years at sea, between her maiden voyage to Bermuda, New York, and Nova Scotia in 1977, to her final European voyage in 1986, Pride of Baltimore extended the hand of friendship to countless visitors. Altogether, she logged more than 150,000 nautical miles, equal to six times around the globe. She sailed further in nine years than most sailing vessels travel in their lifetimes.

Pride of Baltimore was lost in 1986, but Pride of Baltimore II, her successor and a sailing memorial, continues to sail as a goodwill ambassador for Baltimore and Maryland. Since 1988, Pride II has sailed more than 250,000 miles and visited more than 200 ports in 40 countries in North, South, and Central America, Europe, and Asia. For four decades, these modern-day “prides” of Baltimore have promoted historical maritime education, fostered economic development and tourism, and represented the people of Maryland in ports throughout the world.

In this presentation, Celebrating 40 Years of Pride in Baltimore, executive director Rick Scott will share the rich story of Pride, the current state of the organization, new programming, plans for the future, and members will go out for a sail.

This briefing is for ABAG members and invited guests only. Lunch will be served.

This event was originally scheduled for May 22, 2017.
