Take Full Advantage of Your ABAG Membership

 

There are many ways that our members leverage their membership. Scan this inventory list and check mark the benefits you commit yourself to take advantage of this year. Membership in the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers offers a variety of services and benefits for our diverse community of grantmakers.

Knowledge
 
  • Your Knowledge! Share your knowledge with a network that values continuous learning and improvement.
  • Request technical assistance from your ABAG staff; we respond immediately to requests varying from contact information to help writing strategic grant guidelines. Try to stump us!
  • Regularly attend programs that will increase knowledge and skills of grant interest areas and grantmaking practice (average two opportunities every week).
  • Can’t attend? Alert ABAG to join meetings by phone or videoconference or to receive detailed notes.
  • Read, don’t delete, ABAG’s monthly eNewsletters - Members’ Memo, Family Philanthropy Digest, Business News Digest, the Education Funders eNews and other communications.
  • Discover sample policies, foundation salary data, and publications about philanthropy’s best practices from ABAG’s files and our national network’s Forum KnowledgeBase online.
  • Find out what consultants and professional services other members use.
  • Explore or post job announcements in our online Job Bank.
  • Share with your grantees ABAG’s resources for grantseekers, including the Member Directory, Grant Proposal Format, and training events.
Connections
  • Attend ABAG’s Annual Meeting — the region’s largest networking event for funders.
  • Participate in one or more of ABAG’s issue-based affinity groups - Aging, Arts, Basic Human Needs, Education, Environment (Green), Financial Literacy and Asset Building, Health, Mental Health, Neighborhood and Community Development, and Workforce Development.
  • Find peers by type at the Business Giving Roundtable, Family Philanthropy Roundtable, Giving Circle Connector Gathering, Maryland Community Foundation Association or one of ABAG’s Talking Shop series.
  • Seek out personal introductions to other grantmakers; request ABAG facilitated sharing sessions.
  • Rediscover the ABAG Colleague Directory online.
  • Interact with @ABAGrantmakers and fellow members on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.
  • Announce RFPs and news through ABAG’s website and Philanthropy News Online public eNewsletter.
  • Take advantage of the largest network in philanthropy – your national Forum Network of 34 regional associations comprised of 5,500 members from across the country.
Leadership
  • Serve on the ABAG Board of Directors or one of its committees.
  • Be a program developer, initiator, or speaker instead of always a participant.
  • Convene your own meeting of the Board, grantees, or stakeholders in ABAG’s free conference room (25 people).
  • Initiate a collaborative project with ABAG as your backbone organization.
  • Learn about policy advocacy and suggest issues that ABAG’s Public Policy Committee should explore.
  • Participate in ABAG’s meetings with key government officials.
  • Join ABAG staff in meetings with Maryland’s congressional delegation during Foundations on the Hill.
  • Write for Adventures in Philanthropy, ABAG’s blog, about the outcomes of your work.
